Sustainable development
AFNOR definition of sustainable development
"Sustainable development is the development which satisfies the needs of today’s generation without depriving future generations of the possibility of satisfying their own needs."
Sustainable development, our responsibility to society
To further satisfy the demands of its customers, partners and stakeholders, whilst respecting legislation, and because it is strongly attached to its territory and values, EMAC has decided to involve all its employees in a new responsible and sustainable company approach organised along 3 main lines in its QSE policy as follows:
- People : as a matter of priority, preserve the health and safety of people and property (improving employees’ working conditions, training, safety, involvement in local social and economic life, etc).
- Environment: respect the environment, show a good level of environmental performance, control the impacts of its activities, products and services on the environment (energy savings, waste treatment, reducing pollution, etc).
- Economic : pursue the company’s development and improve customer satisfaction (quality management, optimisation of the manufacturing process, reduce costs, organisational management, innovation, etc).
These objectives have become vital stakes both for us and future generations.
In the long term, EMAC only sees development as possible if it is economically efficient, socially equitable, ecologically tolerable and always respects people’s basic rights.
Key figures and points:
- 38% of elastomers used are natural rubber, the rubber industry’s leading biomaterial;
- 21% of employees work in small family run local farms. Shift work at EMAC enables them to continue their farming activity whilst providing them with a regular income;
- 20% energy savings: with 11 other Aquitaine companies this is the improvement programme supported by ADEME and the Aquitaine Regional Council in which EMAC is committed for a period of 2 years;
- 6% of turnover dedicated to training over the last 3 years;
- End of 2009: objective QSE/sustainable development qualification. Already ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 9001 for several years;
- SD 21000: sustainable development referential, 1st French audit at EMAC jointly with the ‘‘Xiberoa’’ community of municipalities (Soule);
- ISO 26000 : EMAC is an active member of the Aquitaine AFAQ-AFNOR sustainable development platform whose aim is to anticipate future applicable measures;
- NACOMAT : research and innovation programme on nanocharges in rubber for the aeronautics/space/defence sector; EMAC thus shows its diversification in this world ASD cluster in Aquitaine
- Development and research into new materials from farming, organic and inorganic waste with a view to anticipating the increased scarcity of fossil-fuels.
